PRESS RELEASE LOCAL AIR CADETS REMEMBER CADETS from 2175 (Rolls-Royce) Squadron, Air Training Corps, paraded today to remember those who have fallen in conflicts around the world. The air cadets completed their annual march past from the Royal British Legion to the Cenotaph in Paisley town. There, along with Wendy Alexander MSP, Douglas Alexander MP, Provost Ronnie Burns and representatives from the Territorial Army, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, St Andrews ambulance and many military veterans and their families, they laid a wreath and observed a two minute silence. The cadets were a credit to themselves, performing their drill manoeuvres with precision and their uniforms were impeccable. A fact not lost on the large crowd who had gathered to watch. Their Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Graham Short RAF VR(T) praised the youngsters for their turnout, “Today, it was important to remember those who gave their lives in conflict and those who still risk their lives today. It was fantastic to see so many young people give up their time to remember them.” At 1pm, the squadron assembled at the graveside of Senior Aircraftsman John Baxter, an ex-cadet of the squadron who was killed by an IRA car bomb in Nieuw Bergen, Holland. The 21 year old served in Number 1 squadron of the RAF Regiment until his death on the 1st of May 1988. The service at Cardonald Cemetary was attended by his family who expressed their gratitude that John remains in our thoughts each year.
