PRESS RELEASE 

HILLINGTON AIR CADETS COMMANDING OFFICER ENDS 32 YEAR SERVICE 

The 11^th of April saw the retirement of 2175 (Rolls-Royce) Squadron Air Training Corps Commanding Officer Flt Lt Gregor Brad RAF (VRT). Despite his desire for a quiet send off, his friends and cadets organised a surprise tribute with ex-cadets, old friends and senior staff.  

Flt Lt Brad ended a 32 year association with the organisation, beginning when he joined as a cadet himself in October 1971. He left cadet service as a Flight Sergeant in May 1978 when he became a Civilian Instructor. He then became an Adult Warrant Officer in June 1980 and was commissioned into the RAF Volunteer Reserve (Training) in 1989.  

Flt Lt Brad joined in a family tradition when he took over as Commanding Officer of the squadron in 1999. His Father, Bill Brad was also the Commanding Officer during the 1970’s. The family link remains however, as his daughter, Elizabeth Brad (16), is now a cadet at the same squadron, a trend which we hope will continue. 

Under his leadership, the squadron achieved enormous success. Their achievements under his reign include winning the Scotland and Northern Ireland Regional Drill trophy and, for the second year running, the Glasgow and West of Scotland Wing Netball trophy. Two of his cadets also won major ATC awards for being the best cadet in the region and obtaining the best ATC exam results in the corps. 

During his final speech, Flt Lt Brad began, “It has been an honour and a privilege to be the Commanding Officer of No. 2175 (Rolls-Royce) Squadron of the Air Training Corps, following in my father’s footsteps who was also the Commanding Officer here, and would take this opportunity to wish you all a successful future in the squadron.”
