PRESS RELEASE 

LOCAL AIR CADETS PRESENTATION EVENING 2003 

LOCAL air cadets from Hillington in Renfrewshire held the annual “MacPherson Cadet of the Year Night Awards” ceremony at their Headquarters on the 5th of December 2003. The awards, donated by Mr Campbell MacPherson, are awarded to the most deserving cadets who have demonstrated their abilities throughout the past year. The evening is the highlight of the calendar for the cadets who are rewarded for their dedication, skills and achievements in areas such as sports, drill and training. 

The event was attended by Wing Commander George Campbell, Officer Commanding Glasgow & West Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, as well as representatives from the cadets’ local schools and their parents and families. 

The evening was hosted by Flight Lieutenant Graham Short who said, “I would like to thank the cadets of 2175 (Rolls-Royce) Squadron for their hard work and achievements over the past year. They are a credit to themselves, their parents and the squadron, showing a fine example to the young people of this area of what they can achieve in life.” 

The main trophy awarded on the evening was the “Cadets of the Year” Trophy, which this year was awarded to Cadet Warrant Officer Bobby Hastie. Bobby has been a cadet with the squadron for over 5 years, attending camps in Germany, Gibraltar and an exchange visit to the USA. Achieving a Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, an RAF Marksmanship and excellent passes in two Leadership courses during his time as an air cadet. A keen sportsman, he has represented Scotland and Northern Ireland region of the air cadets in Athletics and Cross Country running. He is about to enter his second year at Glasgow University, studying Physics and Philosophy.
