CWO Hastie picked up the ASTRA Cup, which is awarded to the top cadet of the course and Chris also excelled, graduating in the top half of the class. Chris also successfully passed an interview for the position of Cadet Sergeant, which we were happy to award him on his return to the squadron. The Course prepares cadets for the increased responsibility in helping to run their units as they reach 18 years of age and become an adult. Their new role will see them teach classes such as Map Reading, Radio Communications and Airmanship to the younger cadets. In addition to this they will help organise and run sporting events, games and quizzes. The course gave them training in Instructional Technique, drill, leadership and planning as well as Health and Safety issues. The two cadets remarked, “The course was intensive and very interesting. We can’t wait to pass on what we’ve learned to our fellow cadets!” Bobby has been a cadet with the squadron for over 6 years, attending camps in Germany, Gibraltar and an exchange visit to the USA. Achieving a Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, an RAF Marksmanship and excellent passes in two Leadership courses during his time as an air cadet. A keen sportsman, he has represented Scotland and Northern Ireland region of the air cadets in Athletics and Cross Country running. He is about to enter his third year at Glasgow University, studying Physics and Philosophy. Chris has been with the squadron for over four years, also achieving a silver Duke of Edinburgh’s award and RAF Marksmanship.
