Mine Sweep

Situation: We have been gassed by the enemy and are blind (only the leader has sight). The enemy have placed mines around the surrounding area and they are set to go off in approx. 10 minutes. The only safe place is the bunker at the other side of the minefield.

Mission: Get as many members into the safe bunker as soon as possible.

Execution: We shall form into a tight single line and the person at the front of the line will be given commands as to which direction to turn. If I say stop do not delay, stop immediately and do not move your feet so I can assess the situation.

Any Questions: Ask the team any if they have any questions. But, remember to watch your time.

Check Understanding: Now you ask the quest to see if they totally understand the situation, mission and how it is going to be executed. As well as other things such the time limit and limitations. (Remember to use poise and pounce)

Time the exercise according to the area marked out. We used about 25m x 25m and a time of 10 minutes. It is a good idea if the blind people don’t see where the mines are.

You will need some equipment for the exercise,

Around 30-40 cones or dribbling discs, for mines.
4 cones and about 6-8m of rope, for the bunker with the four cones tied together bar one side (so they can get in!)
Blindfolds .
A megaphone to project the leader’s voice (optional).
