About UsThe Air Training Corps is a national voluntary youth organization designed to develop the qualities of young people. It is sponsored by the Royal Air Force and provides challenging aviation, adventurous and community activities. 2175 (Rolls Royce) Squadron is the Hillington (Glasgow) branch of the Air Training Corps. What can the ATC offer you? The Air Training Corps offers many activities that are unavailable to any other organisation. We offer activities such as flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training and many others at very little or no cost to yourself. The only thing we want from you is a little time and effort. The advantages are well worth it. Venture Adventure
This is the motto of the Air Training Corps and adventure training is a popular activity for us. There are weekend training camps at garelochhead and weeklong camps at Llanbededr and Windermere organised each year. These camps include activities such as assault courses, night exercises, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, hill walking, mountain biking, gorge walking and orienteering. Flying
The ATC offers the chance to fly in many different aircraft. Cadets are taught basic flying skills in the Grob Tutor . This allows you to perform your own aerobatics under the supervision of a trained pilot. Who wants to be a pilot?
The ATC will teach you to fly at no cost to you. Did you know that you could legally fly solo in an ATC glider at the age of 16? That’s before you are old enough to drive a car! The ATC has many opportunities for gliding and there are three levels of glider training for you to complete. After further training you could become a fully qualified glider pilot. Annual camps
Each year we send cadets to an RAF station during Easter and summer holidays for a weeks camp. At camp you can look forward to activities such as flying, gliding, shooting, night exercises, section visits, drill competitions and sports. You could be sent to camps in Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Gibraltar, and Cyprus. Sports
There are many levels at which you can compete at ATC sports. At the squadron, Wing, Region, and even corps level we take part in sports such as football, rugby, athletics, cross country running, swimming, hockey, and netball. At all these sports you could be winning medals for your achievements. In addition, at the Squadron we can take part in softball, volleyball, tennis, and badminton. Duke of Edinburgh's Award The Air Training Corps is the largest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh's
Award scheme in the world. The scheme is open to young people from their 14th
to 25th birthdays. There are three awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold. The award
is highly regarded by employers as it shows that the participant enjoys a
challenge, has self-confidence and is able to work as part of a team. Service How much will this cost? It costs £1 per week to be a member of the squadron. Your uniform is free. Flying, gliding and shooting are free. Annual camp costs around £30, this includes all your food and board costs. How you can join Anyone, male or female can join the ATC. However, you must be between 13 and 17 years old. We parade on Wednesday and Friday evenings between 7pm and 10pm. |
